Tempting?

Before we start I just want to say that this post may be all over the place because I'll admit it.... I'm not the best writer. But I kind of just wrote what I thought was being placed on my heart. So here goes nothing!!

So, We all have those people in our lives that we just wish we could be. It could be a celebrity, family member, maybe even a friend but, we wish we could have there money, fame, friends, faith, etc... We all have that someone. Let me tell you something though.... God did not put you on this Earth to be someone else. He put you here to be you! No matter how hard you try to be someone else you will NEVER be that person! We also don't realize what people are going though. Many of us have something we're going through right now that maybe only one or two people know about. You may even have something that NO ONE (except God) knows about. And that's why we can't judge a book by its cover because we all have that one thing, maybe even multiple things, that tears us down and nobody even knows it because we put out that front like everything is okay. In the same way, we all have that one sin that no matter how hard we try, pray, read our bible, or go to church it will always tempt us. It could be drugs, alcohol, gossip, sex, or many more. But the main thing that we want to know is how do we face these temptations when they come because.... THEY WILL COME! They come to the best of us. Even Jesus faced these temptations. You can find this in Matthew 4:1-11.

"4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a]by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:“‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ ”11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him." (Mathew 4:1-11)

As the verses above state, Jesus was fasting for forty days and forty nights and his spirit led him into the wilderness to be tested. This happens to all of us. Sometimes we need to be tested. We need to be tested to see how strong we are. To see if we are as strong as we think we are. The Devil was ready for Jesus. The Devil knew exactly what he could use to tempt Jesus. He does the same thing with us. The Devil knows that one big sin in our lives. He knows how to tempt us. And he did the same thing with Jesus as he does with ll of us. He took advantage of his weakness and tempted Jesus with food. I don;t know about you but if I hadn't eaten for a while and someone offered me some bread I would probably swallow it whole. But, what did Jesus do? He fought back with scripture. Jesus was tested three times that day by the Devil and all 3 times he fought back with scripture. Once he fought back the third time. The Devil left. Most of the times when we see Jesus tempted he fights back with scripture. The most amazing thing about this is that He is God's Son. He could call angels down and have them attack the Devil. He has so many powers he could of used but instead he decided to fight back with the same weapon that he knew we would be given, THE BIBLE! It's hard and none of us are like Jesus but, we are given the same weapons as Jesus and we have to use them. We Will be tempted! but God will give us a way out as stated in 1 Corinthians 10:13

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13)

So Trust in the Lord your God that he will provide a way out! Because he will but, we have to find that way out and we have to run as fast as we can when we find that way out. The last thing we need to know about tmeptation is that GOD is NOT the one tempting you. This can be found in James 1:13-18.

"When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has concieved, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don't be decieved, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down fro mthe Father of the heavenly lights, who does change like shifting shadows. He cose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created." (James 1:13-18)

What this verse says is that God cannot be tempted and he doesn't tempt us. It is our own evil desires that tempt us. and one that desire is developed that is when we begin to sin. It goes on to say that sin leads to death. We shall not be decieved by anything. We need to keep our eyes open for temptations. We need to turn to scripture when times get tough. Temptation is a war we cannot win becuase the Devil is ruthless and will not stop until we fall into sin. That is why we must be on high alert EVERY DAY and we must be rooted in faith and scripture so that any time we are tempted we can fight back!
